Hypnosis engages both the conscious and unconscious minds which are commonly used in everyday life. Each area has its own “responsibilities”.
Conscious mind:

- Executive Functions
- Thinking (i.e. addiction)
- Analysis
- Will-power
Unconscious mind:
- Long term memory
- Automatic system (breathing)
- Core beliefs
- Regulatory systems (i.e. pain)
- Feeling and emotions
- Physical sensations
- Procedural memory (i.e. riding a bike)
- Deep fears (from the past)
At Mourning’s Dawn Counselling in British Columbia, we offer clinical hypnotherapy in a safe and comfortable environment. You cannot be hypnotized against your will. You must be a willing participant and offer your full cooperation. Hypnosis is about inducing a pleasant, voluntary altered state of consciousness during which the conscious critical mind is relatively inactive, and the conscious mind is engaged only with your permission. In this state your senses, suggestibility and mental absorption are increased and your imagination is activated in a controlled manner. The unconscious mind is more receptive to acceptable beneficial suggestions.
In Summary, hypnotherapy is a tool that helps you connect with a deeper part of yourself to help make decisions towards your healing. The practice of Hypnotherapy is a process that puts you in control of your healing. I am the guide to make sure you are safely processing painful feelings and experiences and create wholeness.
